It was exactly 9:42 PM when I sank into my couch, wrapped in my softest robe, hibiscus tea in hand. I had just stumbled upon, yet again, a stunning braided hairstyle that instantly sparked a dozen ideas for a new look.
Naturally, I rushed to Instagram’s “Save” feature to tuck it away... and that’s when the moment hit me:
Why am I scrolling endlessly to find the right collection when I already have more than twenty?
‘Hairstyle’, ‘Mindset’, ‘Wardrobe’, ‘St Lucia’, ‘Kids’, ‘NailArt’… and counting.
Wouldn’t a simple search bar make all the difference, help me bring a little order to my (digital) life?
When too many collections ruin the collection
Let’s give Instagram some credit; the “Save” feature was a game-changer.
Before that, my iPhone SE would fill up in no time (anyone else haunted by the “You’re out of storage” notification?). From skincare routines to travel mood boards, we now save everything, and we love it. To the point that we’ve ended up creating a chaotic maze of folders. And when I try to retrieve a braid, a dress, or that dreamy St Lucia decor I saved two weeks ago (or was it a month?), I find myself stuck… scrolling for ages
Here’s what users are saying
“I have many different collections and it's a pain in the ass to find them… they are sorted by last used by default… I have recipes, gardening, photography, cats… all in between.”
— Reddit user reddit.com
“I wish we had access to a lookup tool, instead of having to scroll through all the different collections.”
— Reddit UX thread reddit.com+15reddit.com+15reddit.com+15
“This brings quality of life to the table… sorting by oldest to newest would be cool.”

The fantasy of a search bar
So I asked myself: what if life — and Instagram — were just a bit more graceful?
You type “Hair…” → voilà, the “Hairstyle” collection.
No more guessing which album is 14th in the list (even if, yes, they’re sorted by recent use).
You sip your hibiscus tea without disruption. Inner peace remains intact.
With two keystrokes, we’d move from:
“Search, scroll, sigh”
to
“Type, find, smile.”
Simple? Yes. But in a world overflowing with content, small UX touches are the new luxury.
Goodbye 2018, hello intelligent UX
As a proper Creative Fixer, I can’t help but imagine refined, user-friendly upgrades:
A search bar inside the “Saved” tab.
A filter system: by date, recently added, or alphabetically.
A minimalist visual index — “H” for Hairstyle, “B” for Belize — so I can jump straight to the right collection.
✨ Because sometimes, we scroll so much… we forget to act.
That post you saved might be the one that finally gets you to:
Book the hair appointment
Buy the earrings
Plan the trip
Register for that event
But with no clear way to retrieve it, it becomes just another beautiful acte manqué.
And in the age of digital abundance, organization is the new inspiration.
💬 What about you? Do your Instagram collections feel like a treasure chest... or a cluttered attic?
